Profile of the podium

Mr. Hisanori ISOMURA Former NHK Newscaster

Born in Tokyo, Mr. Isomura began his career at NHK upon graduation from Gakushuin University.

He served as a correspondent in Indochina, Paris and the Middle East and later became director of the NHK Washington bureau, director-general for Europe, deputy director-general for information, and administrative director-general.

After retiring from NHK he worked as an independent diplomatic commentator and was appointed director of la Maison de la Culture du Japon à Paris, a position he held until 2005.

Today he works to bridge Japan and France through various organizations, serving as Chairman of the Association Franco-Japonaise pour la communication - dite TMF and Honorary President of the Paris Club.

In the spring of 2011 he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon.



Mr. Shuzo ISHIMORI Director of Hokkaido University Center For Advanced Tourism Studies

Born in Kobe, Mr. Ishimori graduated from the Konan University Faculty of Economics.

Following his graduate study at the University of Auckland in New Zealand, he became a researcher at the Institute for Research in Humanities at Kyoto University, a professor at the Sokendai Graduate University for Advanced Studies, and professor, research head and research center director at the National Museum of Ethnology.

He took on his current position in April 2006. Until March 2010 he led the Division of Tourism Creation at the Graduate School of International Media, Communication and Tourism Studies at Hokkaido University.

In addition he specialized in Tourism Culture and Tourism Creation studies.

He has promoted projects to comprehensively study tourism trends from a global perspective and projects concerning tourism creation in various parts of Japan.

He has served on the Japan Tourism Advisory Council (Cabinet Office), the MLIT Advisory Committee (MLIT), as chair of the Study Group on Tourism and the Environment (MLIT), and as the YOKOSO! JAPAN ambassador selection committee chair (Japan Tourism Agency).

In 1986 he received the 2nd Masayoshi Ohira Memorial Prize.
